This week started out with a BANG! Monday was an overall
really good day with good moods, feelings, and vibes all around. Students in
all classes were on task and productive for the entire class period. I did not
run out of time with my lessons or have too much time left over. I never felt
too stressed at any point throughout the day. I started the day with a feel
good no stress attitude and ended the day exactly the same. I think I am
finally at that stage where I am used to being tired and surviving on less
sleep. It only took 5 weeks to get used to it ;)
I think I was able to talk to several different people over
the weekend during the Early Career Teacher Workshop’s about my challenging
week last week that I was able to gain different perspectives. I definitely
received a lot of encouraging advice. I think I personally do better on
situations like that when I am able to talk it out with different people and
not just sit and stew about it.
I did notice that the 2 students that were causing issues
for me last week were both absent Monday, which COMPLETELY changed the dynamics
of both classes that were challenging! I honestly could not believe how much
different the classes were. I even had a sub (my cooperating teacher had a CTE
grant meeting all afternoon) and I mentioned to her that I had a few challenges
last week so if she noticed anything or had any advice, good or bad, to let me
know!
All 6 of our state degree candidates gave their
presentations to a panel of community members from various communities in the
area AND DID AWESOME!!! I did not watch all of the presentations nor did I help
all of the kids practice their presentations. However, I was able to watch the
students I did help and felt very proud of each of them. Now I am not taking
any credit at all for how they did because I knew they were capable of it the
entire time. They just needed a little push. Beforehand one student was adamant
that he did not need to practice in front of other people, that he would just
“wing it”. I forced the student to practice at least one time, just so he could
say the words out loud (as they sound very different out loud than they do in
our heads), and after we left the first intro slide there was a deer in the
headlights look and an “Oh crap, she was right!” This was priceless! I wish I
would have gotten it on video. And that particular student went on to practice
2-3 more times before giving his final presentation which he did an amazing job
at!
The rest of the week seemed to fly by with many little to do
items popping up everywhere! I felt as though I used up all of my energy on
Monday and the rest of the week I was burning fumes. I did not feel as prepared
as I could have been for the rest of my lessons. While teaching 7 different
preps (full course load), I feel like I am just trying to survive each day and
ensure I have something set up for each class. I only have one more week of
teaching the full course load so I want to be sure that I am as organized and
prepared for each day that I can be. My full teaching load next year will most
likely be different then my current teaching load and I know I need to keep
myself as organized as I can.
Goals for Week 7:
-
Be as prepared and organized for each of my
classes this week as I possibly can!
-
Enjoy my last 3 days of teaching the full course
load!
